Discography
It is common for a group with a name such as Asia to be a prog rock band, but it is actually a fairly straight forward rock group. The band began as four members and released two albums in 1979, the self-titled debut album and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. Although the band have a wide range of musical backgrounds their biggest hit came in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a huge blockbuster, but it was not without its share of problems. Record companies put the band on spot with the ultimatum "give us a hit record or we'll sack you" and the pressure was on to meet the deadline. Toto was able to do this feat with the help of the smash hit "Africa."
Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experiences. Before joining the group, the members worked as session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their distinctive sound has become the norm for '80s pop, influencing many contemporary artists.
The album opens up hard with tracks like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write fantastic AOR tunes that slowly creep into your head. The album also contains more jazzy, slower tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations, a song that mixes folk with distorted AOR and should sound completely wrong, but actually works amazingly well.
After Toto IV, the band's fortunes began to decline. David Hungate left the band to focus on his solo career. The band had several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the group in the after he was charged with drug abuse. the band continued as a trio with Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.

Toto released Isolation despite the turbulence. It was not as well-liked as IV. The band was able to release an album that was chart-topping, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. The album marked the end of the original Toto lineup and was also the first to feature a new singer, Simon Phillips.

Line-up
The band's third album, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet style of previous albums and was a more powerful, constant effort with an edge that was stronger than Hydra. The more edgy sound of the album reflected the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's improved virtuosity on drums, and a more mature, confident vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard playing was also sharper, more complex and less akin to previous recordings.
After touring to promote their album, the group recorded their Amsterdam live show that was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. A new studio album followed just a few months later and the group went on an extensive world tour in support of it. During this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.
In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to discover songs that hadn't been recorded before. It was released as a double album titled Then And Now in 2001. It was the first album in the history of the band not to include any single song that had the word "A" in the title, and it also contained one previously unreleased track, "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth record, Old Is New was a commercial failure and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis that restricted his singing capabilities. In addition, Hungate returned to Nashville as a drummer, and Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.
Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the original members of Asia, met in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the band could be reformed. 토토사이트 꽁머니 , which was missing Howe who was occupied with Yes at the period, was later renamed Toto XIV. They toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band also featured a guest appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
