The band's third album, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet style of previous albums and was a more powerful, constant effort with an edge that was stronger than Hydra. The more edgy sound of the album reflected the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's improved virtuosity on drums, and a more mature, confident vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams.
